Trump, Russia and the Democrats – A New Dreyfus Affair

Trump, Russia

Trump, Russia and the Democrats.  A 2017 Dreyfus affair, but without any espionage.  A “scandal” looking for an act.  The cause?  Childish and churlish behavior from a President and Senators and Congressmen.  In one corner tweets the petulant president.  He agitates and provokes with no discernible or conceivable advantage to the interests of our country or its people.  A president who would do himself a world of good to study the life of George Washington.  There was a man revered and respected by friend and foe alike because he lived and breathed honor and virtue.  But not this President, version 45.

And in the other corner a sanctimonious group of opposers who fire at every decoy and launch aimless attack waves.  They’ve formed a phalanx to battle every twitch.  They shrill for resignations and special prosecutors but come to the public’s court with nary a scintilla of evidence or basis in fact.  They too care not for the deep wounds they inflict on the country, harms they will never appreciate so long as it all furthers their selfish interests.  Oh, they plead that they do it for us.  Balderdash!

Trump, Russia, they scream!  The country has been overrun.  And they, with their infinite wisdom and Yoda-like virtue, will save us from it all!

History Repeats: A New Dreyfus Affair – Again There’s Nothing There

Poor Alfred Dreyfus, you remember him.  France’s Jewish artillery captain convicted of passing military secrets to the Germans.  The evidence?  A torn-up letter in a waste can at the German Embassy in Paris. It was found by a French spy.  The French charged that the handwriting on the torn letter resembled poor Alfred Dreyfus.  Found guilty of treason and sentenced to life.  The only problem – he didn’t do it.

At least we have proof on this so-far empty and baseless Trump, Russia affair.  James Clapper, President Obama’s Director of National Intelligence until President Trump’s January 20, 2017 inauguration, was pretty darn clear in his interview with Chuck Todd.  He referred directly to his report of data from the National Security Agency, the CIA and the FBI.  He said that there was nothing in that report about alleged improper contacts between the Trump campaign and the Russian government:

We did not include evidence in our report . . . that had anything, that had any reflection of collusion between members of the Trump campaign. . . . At the time, we had no evidence of collusion.

So let’s understand this, people. For months throughout the summer, until the election and through inauguration day, the entire intelligence community investigates Russian influence in our election. They issue two intelligence reports. Both focus exclusively on the matter of Russian influence.  The intelligence community is headed by Democratic President appointees.  Neither report, and none of the attachments to the reports, contain a single word suggesting improper collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians.  Nothing.  The Trump, Russia affair lacks just one thing. An affair.

This, from the people most incentivized to prove it.  If they can.  But they can’t.  And the top intelligence chief in the country, an Obama appointee, confirms that they “had no evidence of collusion.”

Please Democrats, Tell Us You Have Something

Day after day the Democrats feed us meatless slivers of content-empty “information” paraded as “news.” The Russian ambassador met with various persons associated with the new President; oh my God!  They tell us that these horrific events augur a grand conspiracy.  They insist on a special prosecutor.  Bring back Archibald Cox!

But wait.  The intelligence agencies have long known about these “hushed” meetings and “secretive” conversations.  They’ve been listening to them, perhaps most of them, all along.  Methinks they amount to absolutely nothing.

President Obama’s ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, confirms that Russian Ambassador Kislyak is just good at what he does; he’s not even a Putin lackey.  Let’s understand this.  No one from the new administration should ever speak, under any circumstances, to the ambassador from Russia, is that right?  Guess President Obama has some explaining to do – he met with the Ambassador 22 times or so.  Appalling! Treasonous!

We’ve explained previously how Russian FSB Agent Sergei Mikhailov, number two man in their cyber intelligence division, was likely the human source who fingered Putin for the U.S.  He was last seen with a hood over his head facing treason charges.  It’s no surprise that Clapper had no evidence of collusion.  Because if there was any, Mikhailov would have turned it over.

This whole “special prosecutor” dance just does a monumental disservice to our country.  It puts us at each other’s throats.  We suppose that’s the Democrats tactic.  J’accuse, j’accuse!  The Democratic Party that we once admired and respected is no more.

A Special Prosecutor?

But for those who care to know, no longer can Congress request appointment of an independent counsel.  Instead, the Attorney General has wide discretion in deciding whether to appoint an independent prosecutor (known as a “special counsel”).  Covered by Chapter 6 of the Code of Federal Regulations, the Attorney General appoints a special counsel only if he determines that criminal investigation is warranted.  And there is nothing, absolutely nothing so far, that would support the launching of a criminal investigation.  The Democrats have not shown us a thing.

Trump, Russia Affair – Hah!

So let this “diversionary” tactic go on.  It’s a show in Washington.  A circus. And if the Democrats persevere, which we believe they will, then they’d better find something.  Good luck with that.  Political “leaders” with egg on their faces don’t last too long.  The President’s behavior may appall.  The Democrats would do well to rise above it.

Here’s an idea.  Get out of the way and let President Trump ramble on. He’s poised to squander it all, and then some.  We’ve never seen a more dangerous domestic set-up since 1860.  God bless the United States of America, please, once again.
